Laura (1944)
Based from the poster we immediately see three characters which are most likely to be the main characters throughout the film. However, these characters each have different sizes which could either emphasize their significance or power throughout the film (The larger the character, the more significant/dominant). As we can see, the female character on the left is the largest, following is the detective and lastly is the suspicious man carrying a shotgun.
First of all, We can immediately identify that the female character to the left is a femme fatale in the film. This is clearly evident through the way she is dressed, her make up, as well as her seductive posture. Through the use of costume she wears a "V" neck collar which draws attention towards her cleavage thus making her look sexually attractive; a femme fatales secret weapon to charm their male victims. Also, looking at her facial expression she looks rather calm which completely contrasts to the detective on the right as he looks shocked and distressed. This clearly tells us that she could most likely be leading the detective into compromising, dangerous and deadly situations meaning that she is trouble; another convention of a typical femme fatale. Lastly, going back to the point about the positive correlation between size and amount of power. The female character is the largest amongst all the characters in the poster. Therefore, this tells us that she is most likely to be the more/most dominant character throughout the whole film.
The use of color scheme on the poster gives a diverse of connotations. This is immediately suggested through the background colors and text colors. The background is split into half horizontally having the color dark green above and yellowish white below. Firstly, the color dark green is a connotation of "money" which can immediately be associated with greed and since the female character is most covered by this color, this could give us the impression of her being ill intentioned and perhaps a gold digger. As for the bottom half which is light yellow this gives the connotation of curiousity which is clearly evident though the performance of the man on the right whom seems to be looking for something or someone.

Sunset Boulevard (1950)
Based from this poster we see three character varying in size. We see a large face of a woman looking distressed surrounded by the colour red while looking down towards a couple. Through the body language/performance of the couple they seem to be in a relationship as they both possessively hold one another's face. Therefore, Judging by the body language in this poster this immediately could suggest an idea that there will be conflict within these characters. Perhaps the man in the poster is having a secret affair with someone which is causing the woman on the left to be upset. This is also evident through the tangled film roll in the centre of poster which could symbolize/represent their relationship as a "messy" one. Additionally, complimented by the colour red this could emphasize the idea of intense passion associated with their relationship.
We do not see much props/costume in the poster as we only see a close-up and somewhat mid-shot of their faces. However, we see a strap line underneath the title "A Hollywood Story" which could suggest that the characters in the posters could probably be movie stars (actor/actresses) especially through the body language of the couple below.

The colour scheme of this poster consists of only 3 colors (Red, black and yellow). These colours are regulary associated with warning signs. Therefore, this could connote danger soon to come within the film.
This Gun for Hire (1942)
In this poster we see two characters, one which is most likely to be the femme fatale and the other a detective. Compared to the other posters that I've analysed this poster seems to be rather simple. We predominantly see a close-up of a womans face behind a detective. She looks calm and seductive as she looks down towards the detective and because of her size in comparison to the detective she seems to be the dominant figure in the poster. Additionally, because of this, this also gives us an impression of her being a "Puppet Master" which could perhaps be puppeteering the clueless detective into distress/danger; a typical convention of film noir.
The colour scheme in the poster is very simple yet quite symbolic. This is apparent in the colour blue (Blue is a connotation of power) background which is horizontally split in 2 different shades towards the woman and the detective. On the upper portion of the poster the woman is associated with a darker hue/shade of blue compared the detective which has a lighter hue of blue in the background. This clearly suggests that she is much more powerful than the detective throughout the film.
